Black Turtle takes a different approach: maximum 4 students per instructor, a strong conservation ethos embedded into every course, and instructors who are chosen as much for their passion as their credentials. Conservation at the Core

Black Turtle is one of a small number of Thai dive centres that has truly integrated marine conservation into its operation — not as a marketing exercise, but as a genuine commitment. They are a 100% AWARE partner and Greenfins certified, conducting regular beach and ocean clean-ups and running dedicated specialty courses in Coral Reef Conservation, CoralWatch Reef Monitoring, and their own Whale Shark Awareness Distinctive Specialty — a course unique to Black Turtle that combines dive skills with meaningful citizen science.

Reef ecology mini-lessons are woven into every level of training, so students leave with an understanding of the underwater world they’ve just entered, not just the skills to navigate it.

Courses & Professional Training

The full PADI course ladder is on offer, from Discover Scuba through to Instructor. The Divemaster and IDC programmes are run with the same small-group philosophy as the recreational courses — this is not a factory environment. Graduates consistently go on to work in the industry across Thailand and beyond.

Wreck diving is a particular highlight: the HTMS Sattakut — a decommissioned US Navy vessel scuttled off Koh Tao — provides a genuine wreck penetration experience within the PADI specialty framework.

The Sites

Black Turtle runs daily trips to Koh Tao’s headline sites: Chumphon Pinnacle, Southwest Pinnacle, Sail Rock, White Rock, and the HTMS Sattakut. Their departure pier gives them a logistical edge — consistent timing regardless of tide or season.
